Synopsis

It has been exactly one year to the day since Lynx went missing.

For those who cared about him most, it was 365 days of anger, grief and a begrudging acceptance of his disappearance.

But when he suddenly reappears – showing up on the back porch of his apartment in the middle of the night like a ghost – his girlfriend and best friend realize his reappearance might just upend every chance they’ve made to finally start over.

This stunningly frank, full-hearted dramedy asks us to confront the hard truths we run away from and shines a light on what adulthood really means: moving forward.

Press Reviews

"A 90-minute play full of ‘oh no they didn’t’ moments, dialogue that repeats, flies, drifts off and plays together like a free form, expletive-ridden, harmony-filled symphony. And oh yeah, it has some of the most astute and humorous insight into a generation’s resistance toward responsibility."

— Houston Press

"Very funny and charming… a highly entertaining dissection of Midwestern millennials…[with] wry humor, rich language, authentic compassion and distinct whiff of direct authorial experience."

— Chicago Tribune

"The genius of Sender is the breakneck momentum embedded in Holter’s script… He lets his characters spin out like wet clay on a lopsided potter’s wheel, knowing there’s every possibility they’ll end up, well, hitting the wall."

— Chicago Reader

Characters

Character
LYNX

Former bad boy turned laid-back guy. Drifter. Mysterious to the point of nausea. Can’t tell a lie but very uncertain of the actual truth. Magnetic and attractive. Lights up a room. Smooth-talking, hiding something. Never apologizes.

TESS

Could have been a very responsible adult. Walks dogs. The voice of reason, but with a very short threshold. Long suffering and hard drinking. Interrogates like an attorney. Lost hope. Doesn’t trust, craves stability, accustomed to losing.

JORDAN

Late bloomer. Resident tagalong. Suddenly quick-witted. Former jet-setter with wings recently clipped. Works at Groupon. Able to lift other people up even though he’s constantly grounded. Puppy dog from The Shelter. Trapped and desperate for escape.

CASSANDRA

The only actual adult. Finally found out what’s up in life and will take the risk, damn the consequence. Knows exactly what’s wrong with everybody else. Would rather hear a lie than accept the truth.
