Wolves
Steve Yockey
A gripping and fast-paced modern neo-noir, The Wolf at the End of the Block follows Abe, a resident of Chicago’s fictional Rightlynd neighborhood, as he hunts for justice after an intense late-night encounter at a boarded-up bar.
Abe’s search soon entangles his sister, his boss, and a morally gray reporter in a web of mystery and truth.
With time running out, this thriller uncovers each character’s hidden motives, culminating in a dramatic finale filled with unforeseen twists and revelations.
"At just under ninety minutes, Wolf is as close to a complete portrait of our current state of social and political disarray as any play I’ve seen claiming the catchall tag of relevance in the past several years."
— NewCity Stage
"Ike Holter’s The Wolf at the End of the Block is as clear, impassioned, blistering and heartfelt an explanation of that how and why [many Chicagoans of color report feeling uneasy around Chicago police officers] as you could ever hope to see."
— Chicago Tribune

ABE Early 30s, Latino. Stammers, but dedicated. Never knows what to do with his body. Honest to a point, cares for his family and friends, quick temper, always on the bottom but won’t give up.
MIRANDA 20s, Latina. Abe’s sister. Finally escaping from a messed up past; over energetic and eager to fight for any cause. Thirsty for the next step. Loves her brother something fierce. Kind and approachable but will lay down the law without question.
NUNLEY 30s, Black. Owns a deli. Abe’s boss. Guy’s guy, fast-talking, people person, aggressive and territorial. Big brother to all those without.
JAMES Over 45, white. Cop. Nice guy. Plays dumb. Fiercely intelligent. Old-school Chicago. Drinks too much beer. Physically imposing but strangely conversational. Wants to do the right thing, even if it’s wrong. Never has to shout; there is no question of his authority.
FRIDA Over 45, Latina. Reporter/journalist. Free spirit who’s a bit broken down by the system. Has to fight for everything, even when the stakes are low. Knows what she wants. Smooth talker until she needs to strike hard and fast. Can read the instructions on the back of a cereal box and make it sound like an exposé.
