Synopsis

Peggy Wilde is a film star on her way to Broadway in a new play which Ward Kellogg is directing - badly.

She can't tell him so because he might walk out.

And she is engaged to marry him.

When out-of-town critic Alex Burgess pans her and the play in a very knowing way, she decides that with Burgess' help she might get her own performance right and save the play without offending Kellogg.

After an initial clash, star and critic agree on a fine early morning working schedule - the play begins to improve - but the roof falls in.

Director nixes the new interpretation, Critic falls in love with her, young Author gets drunk and blasts Director.

Peggy can't help coming to Author's defense which leads to the fight with Director which she has tried so hard to avoid.

Director walks out and Peggy is sure her life is now a permanent shambles.

Critic has other ideas.

A witty, funny fast-moving love story.

Press Reviews

"Season's most satisfying evening to date. McCleery has an ear for small talk, and a concern for problems of a harried society."

— Denver Post

"Deserves Broadway. Good fare for a summer's night. Fast, gay action."

— Rocky Mountain News
