The Chaplin Plays and Others
Don Nigro
After her divorce, Jeanne moves into an old house and begins having disturbing dreams about going up to the attic and finding a trunk full of wooden puppets.
When she does go up to the attic, she finds the trunk with the puppets, just as in her dream.
She finds the name Jane Strangeways written in a notebook by her bed, in what looks like her own handwriting.
She does some research, and learns that long ago there was such a woman who lived in the house.
She begins having conversations with Jane Strangeways in her dreams, and learns her dark story of betrayal and murder.
And gradually, horribly, she is sucked into Jane's life.
