A party of young rebels escapes Nemotex's oppressive boredom and flees to the Surface in search of legendary creatures called Trees.

Through their encounters with bizarre characters, they learn how the Surface became a blighted desert.

The discovery of one of the last trees inspires their determination to reclaim this lost paradise.
