Synopsis

John Godber was born in Yorkshire in 1956.

A trained teacher with an MA in drama, it was whilst teaching from 1981 -83 that he gained national recognition winning major awards at the National Student Drama Festival and Fringe Firsts at the Edinburgh Festival.

Ini 984 he was appointed artistic director of Hull Truck Theatre Company.

His other stage work includes September in the Rain, Happy Jack, Up V Under.

Blood Sweat andTears, Teechers, Salt of the Earth, Cramp.

Happy Families, April in Paris, On the Piste, and The Office Party.

He has also written extensively for television including Crown Court, Grange Hill and Brookside, the six part BBC series The Ritz and its sequel The Continental, and the screenplay My Kingdom For A Horse.

John also devised the BBC series Chatkface, and has written the sports documentary Body and Soul for Channel FourTelevision.
