Synopsis

A high school play with emphasis on the teachers instead of the students.

Of course, there are many good characters among the students, too.

But the action centers around Edward Fowler, the young, new principal, and Arbutis Meadows, the young, new English teacher.

They're determined to be successful in their new posts---but the obstacles they encounter are formidable.

Arbutis, as Senior Play coach, selects a "poetic" tragedy written by a student in free verse which defies understanding.

When it goes into rehearsal, the result is pure unadulterated hilarity.

Further complications arise from the triangle like situation between Fowler, Arbutis and Dolores Stone, daughter of the tyrannical head of the local school board.

Also competing for Arbutis' attention is the football coach who goes to great lengths to keep one of her students eligible for the football team.

These threads are skillfully woven in a sometimes droll, sometimes farcical and always pleasurable entertainment.
