About Novello Theatre

The Novello Theatre is an elegant West End venue known for its Edwardian charm and rich theatrical history. Nestled in the heart of London’s Theatreland, the Novello has become synonymous with hit musicals, classic revivals, and feel-good entertainment. The history of the Novello Theatre

Originally opened in 1905 as the Waldorf Theatre, the venue was designed by renowned architect W.G.R. Sprague. It was renamed the Strand Theatre in 1909, and later became the Novello in 2005, in honour of Welsh composer and playwright Ivor Novello, who lived in a flat above the theatre for many years.

Over the decades, the Novello has hosted a wide range of productions—from Shakespearean classics and long-running comedies to contemporary musicals. Its reputation soared further with the arrival of Mamma Mia! in 2012, a musical that continues to run there until this day, drawing millions of fans from around the world.
