About this show

Bringing one of Britain’s best-loved characters to life on stage, this unmissable major new production at the Savoy Theatre is jam-packed with irresistible songs, dazzling choreography – and of course, marmalade sandwiches. It’s Paddington as you’ve never seen him before. When a lost, small bear from Peru arrives in London in search of a new home, a chance encounter with the Brown family leads him to the wonderful world of Windsor Gardens. But London isn’t all cream teas and friendly faces – and even the happiest families have their cracks beneath the surface. So when Paddington’s life is suddenly in peril, the Browns must decide just how far they’re willing to go — and what they’re willing to risk — to give this special bear a home. Based on the iconic characters from Michael Bond’s books and the award-winning films, PADDINGTON The Musical is directed by Luke Sheppard, with original music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher and book by Olivier Award-winner Jessica Swale. Please look after this bear.

State-of-the-art animatronics, imaginative staging, fabulous performances and some marvellous songs about marmalade make for an evening that will fill you with joy and melt your heart

Time Out London
It's a luxury musical that feels overstuffed at times...When the maximalism works, it really works.
Andrzej LukowskiRead review
The Telegraph (UK)
No, it’s a touch threadbare, and a little over-stuffed with songs, but fittingly, it’s still a very welcome addition to the British musical family.

The London Evening Standard
this show is pure magic, the height of theatrical entertainment and it may even change your life

So much thought and care have gone into everything concerned with this show, superbly and energetically directed by Luke Sheppard. It wants you to love it, and it is ultimately impossible to resist.

The Stage (UK)
In truth, the material needs more work. But whatever the faults of the show, it’s sweeter than a marmalade sandwich, and if the cuddly creation at its heart doesn’t make it a hit, I’ll eat his hat.
Sam MarloweRead review
The Times (UK)
The adults aren’t to be upstaged in an effervescent, if slightly overlong production directed by Luke Sheppard. Jessica Swale’s script is based on the original Paddington books and the first of the film spin-offs.
Clive DavisRead review
The Independent (UK)
It’s almost palpably eager to please – and if you don’t welcome it right into your heart, you might want to check there’s not some marmalade gumming it shut.

Paddington is pure theatre magic...It invites a live audience in to become part of the story...I tip my hat to Paddington: the small bear is a big hit.

Theatre Weekly (UK)
In a West End crowded with revivals and jukebox fare, this is the best new musical in years. A high-energy, lovingly crafted crowd-pleaser that will delight locals and tourists alike. Paddington has found his perfect home on stage, and it is glorious.

The history of the Savoy Theatre

The Savoy Theatre opened in 1881 and holds a unique place in theatre history—it was the first public building in the world to be entirely lit by electricity. Built by impresario Richard D’Oyly Carte to showcase the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan, the theatre quickly became synonymous with the “Savoy Operas” and a new era of British musical theatre.

The original building was destroyed by fire in 1990, but the theatre was meticulously rebuilt and restored, reopening in 1993 with many of its original features lovingly preserved. The current design blends modern comfort with classic Art Deco elegance, offering a refined yet welcoming environment.
