About this show

What is Midnight about?

Midnight is an original sung-through musical from Todrick Hall, playing a limited Off-Broadway engagement at the Daryl Roth Theatre from 12 September to 8 November 2026. Set in the American South during the 19th century, it follows twelve interconnected lives, six Black characters and six white characters, whose stories collide across the boundaries of race, class and expectation. At its heart the show asks one unforgettable question: what if the life you inherited had belonged to someone else?

What is the music like in Midnight?

The score is wholly sung-through and moves across gospel, rhythm and blues, pop, rock, folk, opera and contemporary musical theatre. Hall wrote the book, music and lyrics, and the production blends that genre-hopping score with large-scale theatrical staging as love, loss, prejudice and hope collide on stage.

Who stars in Midnight?

Todrick Hall stars in the production he also wrote, directs and choreographs. The company includes Jeremy Beloate, Jimmy Brewer, Kennedy Caughell, Dwayne Clark, Sidney DuPont, Ayana George, Autumn Hurlbert, Kolbi Jordan, Sarah Lynn Marion, Ciaran McCarthy and Charlotte Odusanya. The creative team features scenic design by Morgan Large, costumes by Beck Jones, lighting by Jake DeGroot, sound by Lawrence Schober, wigs and hair by Charles G. LaPointe and music supervision by Laurence Stannard.

When is Midnight playing at the Daryl Roth Theatre?

Midnight plays Daryl Roth Theatre at 101 East 15th Street, by Union Square in New York, from 12 September to 8 November 2026, with opening night on 27 September. Matinees play at 2pm and evening performances at 7:30pm.

Is Midnight suitable for children?

Midnight is recommended for ages 12 and up, and children under 5 are not permitted in the theatre. The production explores mature themes set in the 19th-century American South and includes moments of violence, gunshot sound effects, strobe lighting and atmospheric fog.
