About this show

The Rocky Horror Show plays Studio 54 on Broadway, booking through 28 February 2027. Richard O'Brien's 1973 cult musical is directed by Sam Pinkleton, and the production has extended three times since it opened in April 2026.

The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54: the cult musical on Broadway

Brad and Janet are newly engaged, hopelessly square, and driving through a storm when the tyre goes. The nearest light is a castle. Inside is Dr Frank-N-Furter, a scientist from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania, throwing a party to unveil the man he has built in his laboratory. What follows is part B-movie parody, part rock concert, and part invitation to abandon whatever you walked in believing about yourself.

Richard O'Brien wrote it in 1973 as a love letter to the science-fiction and horror films he grew up on. It has not stopped running somewhere in the world since.

Who plays Frank-N-Furter: casting by date

The role changes hands twice during this run, so it is worth checking which performance you are booking.

  • Until 23 August 2026 Luke Evans plays Frank-N-Furter in his Broadway debut, with Stephanie Hsu as Janet and Andrew Durand as Brad. All three play their final performances on 23 August.
  • 25 August to 10 September 2026 Paul Soileau takes over as Frank-N-Furter. He is already in the company as one of the Phantoms.
  • From 11 September 2026 Jake Shears, the Grammy-nominated frontman of Scissor Sisters, plays Frank-N-Furter, with Kevin McHale joining as Brad in his Broadway debut.

Continuing in the company across the run are Rachel Dratch as the Narrator, Juliette Lewis as Magenta, Amber Gray as Riff Raff, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as Columbia, Harvey Guillén as Eddie and Dr Scott, and Josh Rivera as Rocky. Casting can change during a run.

Sam Pinkleton's production of The Rocky Horror Show

Sam Pinkleton directs. This is the show's first Broadway production as a play rather than a film screening, which is a strange fact for something this famous: The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been in cinemas continuously since 1975, but the stage musical it came from had never had a full Broadway staging until 2026.

Studio 54: from nightclub to Broadway house

Studio 54 was the most notorious nightclub in New York before it was a theatre, and the building has kept the shape of one: a wide room, a low balcony, and an atmosphere that suits a show about a party getting out of hand. It sits at 254 West 54th Street, a few minutes north of the main Broadway strip.

The Rocky Horror Show run dates and extensions

The production began previews on 26 March 2026 and opened on 23 April 2026. It has since extended three times, first to 19 July, then to 29 November, and is now booking through 28 February 2027.

What the critics say

The New York Times
Dratch will probably say something hysterically quelling; Evans will probably knock your stockings off...The point of 'Rocky Horror' is to lose control. C’mon, let’s do it again.

Variety
This Roundabout production at Studio 54 just isn't all that much fun, being mostly effortful, maddening and finally exhausting.
Frank RizzoRead review
Time Out New York
Through Frank, O'Brien has created a safe zone for oddballs: a sexual dreamland of default pansexuality where deviance is the norm.

Evans manages to capture the character's scintillating combination of dangerous sexuality and emotional vulnerability, all while adding his own devilish spin.

Lighting & Sound America
If fate decrees that we must do the Time Warp again, at least we have Sam Pinkleton's staging with its wittily off-kilter casting choices for the weird henchpersons and wide-eyed interlopers entangled in the sinister doings over at the Frankenstein place.

“This current incarnation is a hit and miss with some exceptional performances and memorable moments, but the sensory overload at times clouds over the message.”

Luke Evans earns every inch of those heels, but Roundabout’s revival of The Rocky Horror Show delivers more controlled experiment than midnight mayhem.

Solidly produced, this revival still feels like a missed opportunity to be the wild must-attend event of the season. It’s Rocky Horror at Studio 54 for crying out loud.

Durand and Hsu are excellent as Brad and Janet, and Evans is giving a glorious performance as Frank-N-Furter

the cast is stellar and the staging is inventive, but the production just doesn’t measure up to the original…The original for me is the movie.

Critic review
Sam Pinkleton’s affectionately campy new revival pays homage to the outsider, downtown spirit of the half-century-old material, but the show emerges as more of a museum piece than a provocation.
