Arnold Wesker's Love Plays
Arnold Wesker
An elderly trade union leader is dying of leukemia.
He doesn't want his wife to know - but feels a desperate need to discuss his feelings and fears with a younger friend, a professor of Art.
During their meetings - six letters arrive in the mail.
They're from the dying man's wife who writes them in the living room, mails them, and brings them to him with the morning tea, without a word!
He thinks she's simply become eccentric with age - but we realize by the end that she's guessed his secret - and the letters (to be recorded and played over) reveal themselves as passionate and moving testimonies to their happy life together.
Love Letters on Blue Paper is a play written by Arnold Wesker and published by Samuel French .
