Synopsis

Our one-act version of this story did so remarkably well in its first year, that we wanted to offer this version for even greater outreach.

A boy named Mark tried drugs once in his life, sharing the needle with an acquaintance.

His friends are more important to him now, and drugs are behind him.

But, tragically, his past catches up with him when he discovers he has AIDS.

He’s not unusual – a great many teenagers do not know how AIDS is transmitted.

This fact makes this play important and valuable.

In this full-length version, we follow Mark’s battle with AIDS more closely.

We also see more of his three friends and how they deal with his struggle against the disease.

Throughout the play, they build a sort of time capsule of memories of their time with Mark, which they will be left to live with.

This script includes all information about AIDS available at print time.

Seen by over one million students internationally, The Inner Circle was the first play staged for England’s Theatre in Education program at the National Theatre of Great Britain.
