Synopsis

New York dancer Paula McFadden and her 12-year-old daughter Lucy find themselves abandoned by Paula's most recent lover, Tony.

Left with $400 of debt, they cancel their travel plans and decide to stay in their Upper West Side apartment.

Unfortunately, Tony arranged for a subletter: eccentric actor Elliot Garfield, who claims a right to occupy the apartment.

Can Paula, Lucy and Elliot learn to coexist in a cramped New York brownstone?

Despite a rocky start and some hilarious complications, Paula and Elliot find love, and Lucy finally approves of the man in her mother's life.
