| SIMEUN SAVSKI (professor's friend) a barber, since the beginning of time. A master of lathering and blathering. He was been one of the professor's friends since before the war, when he gave him his first shave. He is the brother of the late Stevan Savski. |
| JELENA KATICH POPOVICH - a doctor, an energetic and conscientious woman. Daughter of the late Dr. Katich, the well-known manager of the city hospital. |
| PETAR a former teacher. Leaving academia has made him a free-lance archaeologist. |
| BROTHER HORSE an accordionist, he used to play at weddings with the late Rosemary. |
| THE LATE MILICA PAVLOVICH (professor's wife) the professor's wife, when she died she was at her prettiest and so she remains. |
| THE LATE STEVAN SAVSKI a former soldier with strong spirit and a quick mind, father of the late Janko Savski. |
| THE LATE JANKO SAVSKI spent his life behind a table at a tavern. |
| THE LATE MARKO PEKARKA the baker, died from grief when the people took his bakery, before the days of private enterprise. Remains angry with his wife who survived him. |
| DR. KATICH during his life, he was a well-known and respected doctor. His reputation has not diminished with his death. |
| THE LATE SRECKO ROSEMARY an accordionist, both before and after his death. He got the nickname Rosemary from playing so well at weddings. He is a sad, simple-hearted man. |
