The story is true to the original, wherein Orestes returns to his home after a long exile to behold the disgusting corruption in the palace and to find his father, the king, dead, and his mother married to his murderer.
Upon this frame Sartre has imposed the symbols of a bold morality, giving the characters the suggestion of modern counterparts and heightening the scenes of the play with incomparable theatrical effects.
