This Day Forward
Nicky Silver
Vera, an unmarried schoolteacher, finds herself still under the control of her Mother, now years dead.
This influence is so strong that Helen, the Mother, is onstage verbally interacting with Vera in flashes from the past.
The overt action is Vera's date with Marty, straightforward working man.
The stream of consciousness dialogue between Vera and Helen set in counterpoint with the mundane Vera Marty relationship and the bringing together of the two brings the play to a stunning climax.
The Betrothed is a American play written by Jerome Mcdonough and published by Samuel French (1972).
