Synopsis

Rest assured, this is not the original text you studied in high school!

This award-winning adaptation takes the classic Greek tragedy out of the Mediterranean and into the backwoods of West Virginia with hilarious consequences.

Oedipus Rex is, of course, the age-old tale of the poor guy who was separated from his parents at birth and grew up to murder his father and marry his mother.

In this version, Oedipus (Eddie) and Jocasta (Jo) travail through clairvoyant midwives, incestuous relationships, and idiot psychic children until the hideous, hysterical truth is revealed.

The play concludes without the wholesale destruction found in Sophocles' version, but in modern-day, capitalistic style, Eddy and Jo happily decide to market their story to the tabloids and talk shows.

Featured songs: Somethin' Just Ain't Right in Thebeville, Let's Ditch 'im, Safety Orange, Oh, Tyresius, The Fertility Song , and Relations .
