The Bourgeois Gentleman
Molière
The master of The Ridiculous takes on the avant-garde in this modern adaptation of Moliere's Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.
Rufus Foufas, a successful greengrocer, is dissatisfied by his bouregeois life, and hires a composer, a choregrapher, and a stage director, Percival Hack, to help him become "avant-garde" - and to woo the Polish avant-garde actress, Maia Pansaroff.
Mrs. Foufas wants their daughter Prue to marry Newton Entwhistle, the nice banker next door, but Foufas will have none of it.
He wants to marry her to Moderna 83, the celebrated graffiti artist who only speaks in monosyllables.
Their troubles are only resolved after Foufas is inducted into the "avant-derriere" by Nicky Newfangle - Newton Entwhistle in disguise.
