This very free adaptation of Siegfied Trebitsch's Frau Gitta's Suhne concerns a wife of a university professor who has had an affair with one of her husband's colleagues.
When the colleague dies, he asks Jitta, the wife, to see that a book he has written be published - in her husband's name.
At first, Jitta's husband is reluctant, but eventually he agrees to edit the book and have it published, as he knows his anger over his wife's infidelity cannot last forever.
