Mother Play
Paula Vogel
Following the death of her mother, a fragile 17-year-old girl, Christine, comes to live with her Aunt Marie and Uncle Dan.
Upon her arrival, Marie begins to show off her considerable culinary skills.
Together she and Dan initiate Christine into the pleasures of the palate.
This exploration of appetite in their evening ritual begins to blur the boundaries between adult and child, thought and action, feeding and consuming.
The play's climax lives in the intersection of these in-between spaces -- where the child becomes an adult; where thought creates action; where feeding becomes consuming.
