Synopsis

First produced in Paris, in 1863 with great success.

The very qualities that made it the rage of Paris prevented it from being produced in this country.

The theme is adultery, and while certainly adultery is not absent from the American stage, it is rarely handled with this degree of combined suavity and aggression.
