Synopsis

Written in 1927, Brumby Innes was not given a full stage production until 1972, three years after Katharine Susannah Prichard's death.

It is set among the tribal Aborigines of the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia and foreshadows her famous novel, Coonardoo, with its critical exploration of Australian pastoral society and race relations between the Indigenous peples and the white settlers.

Bid Me to Love is a farce set among the fashionable rich in the lush hills outside Perth.

"In her critical introduction Katharine Brisbane draw the parallels between play and novel and shows how the plays illuminate by their starkness, against the views of the day, the sexual and moral impulses which drove the isolated society in which she lived."--cover.
