Twenty-two years old. The typical teen movie protagonist. Edgy, witty, and depressed. After the death of her son, she is unable to think of anything else, ignoring all other parts of her life, including Bryan.

Calming figure guiding the children. His eyes are kind. He has large ears that are good for listening. He loves the children.

Narrator. She is middle-aged and helps connect the story to present day. Also plays:

Twenty-two years old. Leigh’s fiancé and adoptive father of her son. As the one to watch their son die, he finds himself unable to think about the loss at all.

Confused by what is happening. She needs to take action. She can’t imagine doing nothing.

Amelie’s mother. She is strict but kindhearted. She always puts family first, no matter the consequences.

Mature, intelligent twenty-year-old woman. She likes following the rules but still gets along with her sister, Cecile, who doesn’t.

Trying to navigate a world that has never been kind to her. Doubles as Leigh’s no-nonsense therapist.

In a deep depression due to what is happening. Is barely holding it together. Married to Dad.

fifteen, intelligent, pragmatic

Fun-loving, expressive eighteen-year-old sister of Elouise. She always means well, but she has a short temper.

Frightened over what is happening. Tries to find some positivity.

sixteen, vengeful

Amelie’s brother. He is ambitious, opinionated, and not afraid to speak his mind.

The “gentle giant,” caring but often hypocritical and too quick to sacrifice his happiness. Doubles as Bryan’s understanding but straightforward therapist.

Always seen dressed sharply. He has a hard time empathizing. He never stands with the group. He knows more about the situation than anyone else; however, he is completely clueless.

Soldiers that bring Amelie, Cecile, and Elouise into custody. They are drunk with power and immature.
