Shel Silverstein's play THE DEVIL AND BILLY MARKHAM played a double bill with David Mamet's BOBBY GOULD IN HELL, collectively titled OH HELL, at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center. With Mr. Mamet, he co-wrote the screenplay "Things Change" for Columbia Pictures, which starred Don Ameche and Joe Mantegna. His play HAMLET was performed at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York. He has written and illustrated several children's classics, including "Where the Sidewalk Ends," "A Light in the Attic," and "The Giving Tree." His plays include THE CRATE, LADY OR THE TIGER, GORILLA, and LITTLE FEET. He is also a noted cartoonist and the author of many songs and poems. His song "I'm Checking Out of the Heartbreak Hotel" from the film "Postcards from the Edge" was nominated for an Academy Award.
