Rebecca Prichard attended the University of Exeter, where she gained an honours degree in Drama. Her first full-length play, ESSEX GIRLS, was produced at The Royal Court as part of the 1994 Young Writers Festival. In March 1995, the Royal Court’s Young People’s Theatre produced her second play, IT COULD BE YOU. Her play FAIR GAME, a free adaptation of GAMES IN THE BACKYARD by Edna Mazya, was performed at The Royal Court Downstairs at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 1997. Her next play, YARD GAL, a Clean Break Theatre co-production with the Royal Court, opened in May 1998 at The Royal Court Theatre Upstairs before touring nationally. Rebecca was awarded the Critics Circle Award in 1998 for YARD GAL. It opened in German at the Schauspielhaus, Essen, in February 1999. Her play FUTURES was produced by and performed at Theatre 503 in February 2006. Rebecca has also written for radio. She is under commission to Out of Joint Theatre Co., The Royal Court Theatre, and The Bush Theatre. She is developing films for Dan Films/Channel 4. Rebecca previously worked as a devisor/performer for Leap Children’s Theatre and as a drama youth worker for Artspace.
