Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Peter Gaitens trained as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England. His adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel Giovanni’s Room (co-written with Maia Guest), was the first estate-sanctioned adaptation of any of Baldwin’s works. His adaptation of Michael Cunningham’s novel Flesh and Blood was first performed at Portland Center Stage in Portland, Oregon, and subsequently produced at New York Theatre Workshop in New York City.
