Synopsis

Betty, a retired widow from New York, is having a difficult time adjusting to life without her husband.

She’s driving her son crazy as she nervously dips her toe into online dating.

Bob, a widower, also a Florida transplant, gets an unexpected call from his divorced daughter: she’s coming to visit.

They’re both hurting but are too much alike to admit they need each other.

Meanwhile, a wife and her curmudgeonly husband navigate living on a fixed income.

Touch is a story about the enduring need for love and companionship at any age.

Press Reviews

"I loved this show… Very aptly named as it will really touch you."

— Hi! Drama

"Goodman’s writing bring[s] us hilarious, over-the-top, wonderfully uncomfortable moments. All in a story about getting older and managing our children’s roles in our lives… and the magic of a great sandwich."

— Front Row Center

"There’s a wonderful balance of humor and poignancy. I love that the plotline isn’t predictable… Lori writes dialogue the way people speak, with the added dash of rhythm and banter reminiscent of Neil Simon."

— Stacey Scotte, Hollywood Soapbox

"Most stories with seniors show them as either comic relief or the source of trauma for their adult children. If older adults are at the center of the story, it doesn’t take long for us to learn that they are either dying of cancer or losing their minds to Alzheimer’s. This is not that story. Mature audiences, who are still the most loyal theatre goers, deserve to see stories that reflect their lives in a way that offers hope that we can still learn and grow at any age. Touch is such a show."

Characters

Character
BETTY

In her 70s, widowed, living in Florida; a transplanted New Yorker. She and her husband retired and moved to be near their son who lives in Florida. She is spirited but very much a woman of her era; wife, mother, not much else; she is a litle lost without her husband and depends too much on her son, Jim.

JIM

Betty’s son. In his 30s to 40s. Single, lives nearby. Helpful and patient, a no-drama kind of guy. He would love his mom to find her way to becoming more independent.

BOB
ANNA
MAUREEN

In her 60s to 70s. A widow who takes great care to put herself together. Her boisterous personality masks her deep reflective nature.

SALLY
WIFE
STAN
HUSBAND
MORRIS
