Shavings
by Pauline Phelps, Marion Short

Shavings

Synopsis

The outstanding character is a lovable philosopher, regarded by the natives as a harmless crank, worthy of the name of "Shavings."

When his mother died he closed the old house and lived in the shop where he made windmills and toys for the children.

The tranquility of his life is undisturbed until a beautiful widow comes with her little daughter.

There are complications in which are concerned the widow's brother, who has served a prison term, a big-hearted banker whose daughter is in love with the son of the village skinflint; a gossip who is not a woman and who causes no end of hilarity; and a Major who had loved the widow before her marriage.

An excellent play for high schools.
