Death Note: The Musical at London’s Barbican Theatre
The cult manga and anime phenomenon Death Note arrives at London’s Barbican Theatre in a thrilling new musical, playing a strictly limited world-premiere season from 30 July to 12 September 2026. With a score by Tony, Grammy and Emmy-nominated composer Frank Wildhorn, it brings the story’s themes of justice, morality and obsession to life, and works just as well for devoted fans as for newcomers meeting the story for the first time.
What is Death Note: The Musical about?
When gifted student Light Yagami finds a mysterious notebook with the power to kill anyone whose name is written inside, he sets out to remake the world as the vigilante known as Kira. As the body count rises, the world’s greatest detective, known only as L, closes in. What follows is a tense, high-stakes game of cat and mouse where power, fate and morality hang in the balance, driven by dramatic staging, bold visuals and songs including “Where Is the Justice?” and “Hurricane”.
Who created Death Note: The Musical?
The production is directed by Stephen Whitson, with music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy and a book by Ivan Menchell. Casting is announced ahead of each run and productions rotate their cast regularly, so check the latest line-up when you book.
