Synopsis

THE STORY: WHERE DID WE SIT ON THE BUS?

is an electric one-person show pulsing with Latin rhythms, rap, hip-hop, spoken word, and live looping.

During a third-grade lesson on the civil rights movement and Rosa Parks, a Latinx eight-year-old raises their hand to ask, “Where did we sit on the bus?” and the teacher can’t answer the question.

This coming-of-age story examines finding identity in art, family, and culture, and what being Latinx means through the eyes of a child, turned teenager, turned adult.

Press Reviews

"Bursting with comedy, wit, and thoughtful self-examination, Brian Quijada’s 90-minute autobiographical show is a one-man marvel!"

— Around The Town Chicago

"…Mining memories from early childhood to present-day Chicago, Quijada uses this autobiographical one-man show to grapple with life, liberty, and the paradox of the American dream. In the vein of John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown, the 90-minute performance…is as funny as it is poignant: expertly crafted, deftly poetic, and unabashedly authentic. You’ll laugh, cry, cheer—your only regret will be that you didn’t get to do it longer."
