Synopsis

Charlie, owner of a run-down bar on Manhattan's lower East side, shuns the present for memories of a more favorable past.

Heavily in debt, due to gambling, he vainly attempts to reinstate himself with plans to reopen the bar's restaurant.

He unsuccessfully woos his estranged son in this venture.

He cannot face the realities of his life even when warned of impending danger and he bridles under the pressures in an alcoholic daze.
