That Summer
David French
Based on the irresistible Phaedra-Hippolytus myth the scene is present day New York, and the king is a restaurant owner.
The son by his first love has hitchhiked from the West Coast on the death of his mother, to encounter his father's beautiful young wife.
What occurs is inevitable, including the deaths of both.
"Euripedes, Seneca, Raine and Gilroy"
— that's the geneology of the new play - New York World Journal Tribune
"A fresh facet to his talent in the present work, and a welcome one."
— The Wall Street Journal
"The whole evening is a kaleidoscope, with nothing wasted...None of it is remote myth, but rather warmly, vividly compassionately alive. It expands in imagination. How complete the revelation will depend on individual qualities of imagination and concentration. For me the play cast a spell."
— Chicago Tribune
