Samson Raphaelson was born in New York City on March 30, 1894. After graduating from the University of Illinois, Raphaelson held various occupations such as English Literature Professor, "New York Times" crime reporter and work in the field of advertisement. He later became a playwright responsible for many well-known plays, which were eventually adapted into movies such as "The Jazz Singer," "Accent on Youth," "Mr. Music," "But Not for Me," "Hilda Crane," "A Rose Is Not a Rose," and "Skylark." Later in his life, Raphaelson taught playwriting at Columbia University until his death on July 16, 1983.
