Michael Brown invented the buffer state of Neo-Slavonia, and felt that he had a better right than anyone else to become its ruler.
So he arrives at the country home of Simon Battersby as Prince Michael, and the Battersbys have invited friends to meet him.
Among the guests is Jennifer, the widow of the late illustrious General James Bulger.
In fact, she is none other than the wife of Michael Brown.
They had parted four years ago, and Michael still being in love with her, is the real cause of drawing the so-called Prince to the Battersbys'.
The Prince, having decided to abdicate, masquerades first as his own secretary, anl then as the late General Bulger, before he is finally re-accepted by Jennifer.
