Synopsis
Anne Bowling's entire fortune, in bonds, is mysteriously stolen, and the messenger who carried them is found dead with the mark "S.
Q. V." burned in his forehead.
Miss Dowling and her guardian Walter Marston, receive a warning from "S.
Q. V." that they will be killed unless they leave the city at once.
They discuss the situation with Tom Bennett, a young mining engineer whose past is unknown, and who is in love with Anne, and decide to fight it out
After Bennett has been called awav, there is a shot in the dark
The murdered man is discovered hidden in a safe an hour later.
From this point on, Tom Bennett is slowly but surely drawn into a net of circumstantial evidence that all but sends him to prison.
A mystery until a minute before the final curtain.
