Synopsis
A typically mad Feydeau pace and plot.
Barillon, fortyish, is about to marry young Virginie, daughter of the widow Madame Jambart.
But Virginie really loves young Patrice.
Due to confusion at the wedding ceremony and due to the drunken clerk filling in the wrong name on the marriage certificate—Barillon finds he's married to Madame Jambart, his prospective mother-in-law.
Then Jambart, her last husband, presumed drowned years ago, returns—and Madame Jambart finds—as she says—she's a "bigamistress."
Unable to face the ridicule, the bizarre menage a trois leaves Paris for the country—but their hapless reputation follows them.
Finally, the three-way marriage knot's untied and, of course, Virginie marries Patrice.
