My Neighbour Totoro Tickets
Following its record-breaking, sold-out run at the Barbican, My Neighbour Totoro has returned to delight audiences at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. This remarkable adaptation of Studio Ghibli's beloved animated film brings Hayao Miyazaki's magical world to life through stunning puppetry, live orchestral music, and heartfelt storytelling.
The story follows two young sisters, Satsuki and Mei, who move to the Japanese countryside while their mother recovers in hospital. As they explore their new home, they discover magical woodland spirits led by the gentle giant Totoro. This touching tale beautifully captures childhood wonder, family bonds, and resilience, creating a theatrical experience that resonates with both children and adults.
Created by the Royal Shakespeare Company in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, this production combines theatrical excellence with the beloved animation legacy. The stunning puppetry crafted by Jim Henson's Creature Shop brings Totoro, the mischievous soot sprites, and the extraordinary Catbus to vivid life on stage, while Joe Hisaishi's compositions are performed live to create an emotionally rich experience.
What to Expect at My Neighbour Totoro
The performance runs for approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, including one 20-minute interval. The production's standout feature is its jaw-dropping puppetry that brings the forest spirits to life in large-scale, intricate detail. The Catbus sequence alone is a theatrical spectacle that captures the wonder of Studio Ghibli's animated world.
The Gillian Lynne Theatre provides the perfect intimate setting for this family production. The venue's excellent sightlines ensure every seat offers a clear view of the puppetry magic, while the live orchestra creates an atmospheric score that enhances every scene. From the whimsical notes of "The Path of the Wind" to the theme song, the music brings nostalgic warmth to Miyazaki's world.
