Veins and Thumbtacks
Jonathan Marc Sherman
The story is concerned with an unsuccessful clerk in a large New York firm, who at the age of thirty thinks himself a failure.
He meets a courageous girl at his boarding house who at first turns him down.
He then calls the spirits of his deceased grandparents and in dream scenes goes back to his childhood and thereby gets a new start in life.
Reawakening, he is able to make a great moral decision and lay the foundation of his future success.
By doing this, he wins the hand of the girl who earlier had not seen anything in him.
