Kabuki Ugly Duckling
Pamela Sterling
This dramatic adaptation of a Japanese folktale is two stories: that of a pair of Mandarin ducks and the samurai and kitchen maid who come to their aid.
In the end, it is the ducks who save the human pair.
The play draws on conventions of Japanese theater such as the use of puppets, masks and visible prop men.
"Simple, beautiful songs advance the story. Louisville Eccentric Observer. "Visual, musical and humorous elements make the story come alive on the stage."
