Synopsis

Adapted by David F. Eliet from Yaffa Eliach's Hasidic Tales of the Holocaust.

Two one-act plays.

/ The scope of the destruction of The Holocaust is almost unimaginable; the numbers of people murdered staggering.

These two plays deftly dramatize stories of exceptional individuals who survived the Holocaust and who risked their lives to save others.

The Spirit of Life / Drawing on material from Yaffa Eliach's landmark book, these moving stories relate the experiences of individuals, many of them young people, during the Shoah.

The play examines some of the mechanisms of the Final Solution and tells of the hatred and prejudice that fueled this unthinkable event.

Magda and Joseph / Based on certain episodes in the lives of Mária Magdaléna Bednarová and Ján Flimel, this is the true story of a woman who risked her life to save the life of one Jewish man.

It is a story of the personal courage of an ordinary person, and shows how everyone had the choice to help or turn away.
