Synopsis

Reese, a rootless youth, is hospitalized with a broken arm and is transferred to the terminal cancer ward, for reasons no one will divulge.

He could leave, but he’s got no place to go.

Reese discovers that one jibbering patient has electrodes in his skull – an involuntary victim of medical experimentation.

He learns more of the horrors of the experimentation room when another patient in error tampers with the electrodes, reverts to infancy, and becomes irreversibly insane… just as Reese’s turn for experimentation arrives.

Press Reviews

"Mr. Reardon has written a play that is by turn gripping, entertaining and amusing. It is a pleasurably well-crafted work. The writing is taut, tough and funny. Very much worth seeing!"

— Clive Barnes, The New York Times

"A fascinating, chilling bit of theater. A great beginning for a new and very talented playwright."

— William Raidy, Newhouse Newspapers

"The Happiness Cage is a play of almost unrelieved tension and violence. It sustains interest and gains strength in each successful scene. It should and must be seen."

— Richard J. Scholem, Greater New York Radio
