Synopsis

Hartigan, a rough hewn Irish bill collector becomes a love slave and companion to a proper English lady named Elizabeth.

Her home is a cluttered London townhouse which has virtually become a museum of the British Empire on which the sun has long set.

The door chimes out "God Save The Queen".

Conscripted into her service, Hartigan, as Galatea to her Pygmalion, is taught by the Englishwoman how to be a true "gentleman".

The play, reinventing the ongoing conflict between the Irish and the English, was produced to critical acclaim at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre starring Julie Harris and Charles Durning.
