Summer in Chicago: Temperatures flare, shootings spike and the city is stuck in status quo.
After Zora experiences a violent run-in on the L, she and a ragtag group of vigilante citizens decide they have had enough of the senseless violence in the fictional 51st Ward.
Realizing that they are the only people that can save themselves, they begin a training regimen and crime-fighting crusade that makes more demands of their friendships, relationships and physical and mental strength and endurance than they thought possible.
With fight sequences and loads of grit and spirit, Prowess tests the limits of how one makes the world right.
"Nobody else in Chicago writes anything like the massively talented Holter, whose poetic language often emerges in thrilling torrents… and his emotional hope for the future cascades all over Prowess."
— Chicago Tribune
"★★★★/5 “Prowess zooms in to examine the damage inflicted on the psyches of these street-level non-supers by fighting violence with violence. Holter’s work is engaging and exhilarating... as in some of his other best works, Prowess uses disarming irreverence and a little bit of fantasy to get us thinking freshly about real-world heroic themes."
— Time Out Chicago
"Genre-bending, alternately hilarious and frightening, and simply exhilarating!"
— Talkin’ Broadway
