Synopsis

Act I: The Lewis family prepares to go to church and after several conflicts and arguments they depart, taking with them the prevalent family attitude.

Act II: A month has passed.

The family returns from church and dinner at a local restaurant and Mr. Lewis is especially upset because his daughter Alice has indicated she wants to be missionary.

Mrs. Lewis, too, seeks to discourage her desires.

Act III: Four months later and Mrs. Lewis has successfully helped Alice suppress her idea of becoming a missionary.

However, when Alice is involved in a serious automobile accident the play reaches a climax as Mrs. Lewis reflects upon various events prior to receiving a call from the hospital.
