Synopsis

Beautiful Beulah Belle returns home on a bitter winter's night from one of her habitual errands of mercy to find that the dastardly Lucifer Lowdown demands her hand in marriage if the old homestead is to be saved as a refuge for her family of four more-or-less hopeless females.

The combined efforts of sentimental (but wise) Granny and the adenoidal hero, Adonis Adrenalin, save the day -- at the last possible moment, of course.

The villainous Lucifer runs for his very life as he is pursued by the man hungry Auntie Anna and the ultra-eager Ulalee Bloomersnap.

The play unfolds quickly with pathos and bathos a-plenty, with loads of opportunities for the audience to hiss the villainy and applaud the virtue.

Characters

Character
Adonis Adrenalin

A "simple" lad in his early 20s. He is bashful, but honest, if a bit slow and even stupid. Obviously smitten with Beulah Belle and is eager to please. He is also slow-moving and intensely serious.

Beulah Belle

A beautiful girl in her late teens, the epitome of virtue and aware of her goodness. Very innocent, and possesses a super-nice charm. She is not too bright, but effusive, cheerful and naturally brave.

Granny Hannah

Very old, head of the household and used to authority.

Auntie Anna

A typical old-maid and still "available!" She is very deaf, although she will not admit it. entirely nit-witted, rather shallow, but friendly.

Ulalee

A young brat in her early teens. She is loud, bold and a "wrong one," but not villainous. She is quick in her movements and her change in emotion.

Mother Dear

A matronly woman in her late 40s, stout and dowdy. Dotes on her two young daughters and believes "love is blind."

Lucifer Lowdown

A cad in his early 40s who passes as handsome. He has a nasty disposition is a natural bully. However, he is something of a craven coward.
