Synopsis
THE STORY: The playwright takes us through the period shortly before Socrates' enemies bring charges against him of corrupting the youth and treason against the state.
The wife and sons of the philosopher are treated in a new and original manner, and Xantippe is shown to be something more than the shrew tradition has made of her.
There is a tender husband, but a real understanding of the principles for which he gave up his life.
There are charming scenes involving a king of Sparta and his efforts to kidnap the philosopher and bring him to his own capital.
The climax is based on one of the greatest trials in the history of the world, where Socrates sets forth his deep faith in democracy.
