Synopsis

When Mr. Justice Carstairs, convinced of the man's guilt, sentences William Buford to ten years imprisonment he does not expect to have to turn detective and re-investigate the case for himself.

But this is what, at the insistence of Buford's attractive but rather alarming wife, Lesley, he agrees to do.

Lesley produces an unlikely story which has an apparent grain of truth, and persuades the Judge that he may have been wrong.

Together they try to trace a man called Thompson who, she says, is the real criminal.

In an amusing way, the Judge discovers that most of Lesley's story is a lie, but by now he himself has almost fallen a victim to her charming influence, and eventually they are able to reveal the truth.

FEE: $75 per performance.
