Synopsis

When a sophisticated older man sets out to make a fool of himself over a young girl - and his resourcefull housekeeper digs in to prevent it - something has to give.

Theatrical producer Milo Brooks is heart-bent on marrying his sparkling new star, Mary Gregory.

Moreover, he means to use her to establish himself in Hollywood.

Milo puts her in touch with Neal Price, a young novelist and flying instructor from Vermont, who has written two-thirds of a play for her.

Milo's aim is to keep Mary happy in Connecticut while he closes the deal in Hollywood.

He feels quite safe, believing Neal to be (a) newly married, (b) painfully shy, and (c) incapable of writing a third act if his life depended on it!

Neal turns out to be single, and Milo returns from the Coast to find young love in bud, if not bloom, and his entire future in jeopardy.

The night is ablaze with lightning-like double-crosses and re-doube-crosses.

When the last bolt has been shot, Milo, the fox, is out-foxed; the lovers are walking in the garden; and happy indeed is Mrs. Vail - who, Milo begins to perceive, is probably the woman for him anyway!
