Siblings Vanya and Sonia live a quiet life in the family farmhouse in Pennsylvania caring for their parents.
Their peaceful routine is disrupted when their movie star sister Masha visits for the weekend with her young lover (Spike) and announces her plans to sell their childhood home.
A weekend of rivalry, regret, and raucousness follows in this multi award-winning play.
"Brainy and witty and clever and cute."
— Variety
"[Durang] suggests that there comes a time when adolescent notions of grown-up despair need to be put aside. You might say that Vanya et alia tempers both Chekhovian ennui and Durangian angst with the calming spirit of acceptance that antidepressants are supposed to instill."
— The New York Times
"Churning Chekhov into modern-day chuckles."
— New York Daily News
"Both breathtakingly funny and quietly poignant, this Chekhov-inspired work – for which knowledge of the Russian master's plays is not a requirement – is pure joy from start to finish."
— Backstage
